I always create blogs with the purpose of not using them. Yes, I do that. Some people have to eat from every single tray of free food they see, I open free blog accounts.
And like I said I never intend to really use them. I just like to have them in case I want to use them. If some day I get an idea or theme for one of them, I don’t have to look for a place cause I just have them, around like everywhere.
But then there are some places that are just screaming to be written in, and that’s where things get a little crazy. Some blogging sites are just too good and populated not to write in. Since I only had one journal back then it was easy to start putting stray thoughts somewhere else. It became clear since the first day what I was going to do there and with time it has only been better, they have only added tools that serve me better.
I had a phase in which I opened about 5 accounts on three days and those accounts are empty. Thank Jesus.
And then there’s Vox. When I discovered Vox it was beta and you had to ask to be in and wait until they gave you an account. Exclusive is always extremely attractive.
So I asked for an account and then waited. And then forgot that I was waiting.
I don’t remember how long it took but some months after I received my invitation to open a brand new nifty shiny account. I had seen some VOX blogs and they looked crispy and fresh but nothing prepared me for what I saw when I entered.
There in the updating page I had some of the most attractive options ever, I could upload pictures and videos and with a couple of clicks have them EXACTLY where I wanted in my posts. I could show my photos or hide them, just like the videos. Posting pictures from Flickr? Check. Photobucket? Check.
I could make collections of stuff. As it say on my first post it was finally, blogging with everything I needed. And then I realized I didn’t knew what to do with it, except one thing; it had to be in Spanish. I had been waiting for a place that was versatile where I could put my language to good use, I couldn’t make a blog in my mother tongue anywhere, it had to be a special place where it felt homey enough that even if Spanish wasn’t popular, I would feel at home. VOX did what no other blogging account had done before; it made it so that I felt welcome to have my long awaited blog in Spanish.
Groups are so well separated that the content can be perfectly controlled; family, friends, family AND friends, me only and of course the neighborhood. Not friends, not family but VOX people that like blogging as much as me, neighborhood. I like that word. Not only you can have that many groups, you can do this awesome trick where you can make a post public and have private pictures in it.
!!!!!
VOX announced this with an example of how if you went to a party and got trash you could post about how you went to a party and had a great time; public, and include pics about you and your friends puking in corners; FRIENDS ONLY. And that translates into so many other uses: mothers and fathers can post about how cute their baby is; public and include pictures of the first time the baby got the pamper out while sleeping and there was poop all around the crib! Very private. Employees could post about how much they loved their jobs and make it public and then include a photo of them making very vulgar signs with their hands titled: “I hate you Whomever!!”; very private!! It’s amazing.
So VOX was the blog that I didn’t knew what to do with, but it gave me so many tools that it made itself into one of my favorite blogging websites. I loooooooove it. It’s now a journal that I wanted and had been waiting for.
I just wanted to thank you VOX team por hacerme sentir en casa*.
*for making me feel at home.
No, ninguna.

What books did you love as a child?
